Sense Organs: How the Eye and Ear Turn Light and Sound into Impulses

Human Biology and Physiology carries 15 of the 40 Zoology marks; sense organs usually take one, sometimes two. MEC's scope line is short — Eye; Ear — and the questions are predictable:

• Recall — which layer is the retina, which ossicle touches the oval window, which pigment sits in rods, which cranial nerve carries hearing.
• Understanding — why the fovea gives the sharpest image, why a myopic eye needs a concave lens, why high notes are heard at the base of the cochlea, why the Eustachian tube "pops" the ears.
• Application — a child who cannot see the blackboard, a night-blind villager, a patient with raised eye pressure, a worker deafened by noise; name the defect or the damaged part.
