Every non-metal the syllabus names, drilled the way the paper asks it: how each one is made, the reactions that prove it, the test that identifies it, and what it is used for.
Unit 2 carries 10 of the 50 chemistry marks; with three chapters sharing them, this one averages a little over three (MEC publishes weights by unit, not by chapter). It is the fattest chapter in Inorganic chemistry and the one where marks are cheapest, because almost every question is a fact you either know or do not.
The MEC scope line runs: Atomic, molecular and nascent hydrogen … heavy water. Types of oxides … ozone … ammonia, phosphine and nitric acid … chlorine, bromine and iodine … HCl, HBr and HI. Allotropes of carbon; carbon monoxide … hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide and sulphuric acid. The headings below are its points in MEC's order.
Three ways it comes: recall (which pair gives PH₃, the Contact catalyst, the colour of AgI); understanding (why HBr cannot come from concentrated H₂SO₄, why SO₂ bleaching fades); application (name the gas from a described experiment, predict Zn with very dilute HNO₃). Read every substance as a triplet — what makes it, what proves it, what it is for.
