Reproductive System: Gametes, Cycles and the Hormone Timeline

The reproductive system takes about two of the 15 Human Biology and Physiology questions, and the female hormone timeline is the most-asked page in the unit. MEC's scope line: Organs; Gametogenesis; Ovarian and menstrual cycle. Three shapes of question:

• Recall — where sperm mature, which gland adds fructose, which day ovulation falls on, which hormone the corpus luteum makes.
• Understanding — why the testes hang outside the body, why oogenesis gives one egg and spermatogenesis four sperm, why progesterone falling causes menstruation.
• Application — what a pregnancy test detects; when a woman with 35-day cycles ovulates; a man with normal testosterone but no sperm.
